What is the maximum weight of an aircraft with a wing of area 50 m 2 flying horizontally if the velocity of the air over the upper surface of the wing is 150 m/s and that of the lower surface is 140 m/s?(Density of Air = 1.29Kgm3)

Solution:

The Area of Wings (A) = 50m2

Velocity of upper surface of the wing (vu)= 150 m/s

Velocity of lower surface of the wing(vl) = 140 m/s

Density of the air (ρ) = 1.29Kgm3

Now,

From Bernoulli’s Theorem:

Uplifting Force of the Plane (F) = $\frac{1}{2}$ρ.A.(vu2 - vl2)

Or, F =0.5 x 1.29 x 50 x (1502-1402) = 93525N

Thus, Maximum weight is 93525N
