Basic components of Spreadsheet

A workbook is a file created by MS Excel. A workbook contains multiple worksheets, its default name is book1, book2, book3, and so on.

Worksheet

A worksheet is an electronic sheet that contains a number of rows and columns. A row is defined by the integer number 1, 2, 3, … up to 10,48,576 and column defined by the Roman alphabets A, B, C, … up to XFD (16,384).

Cell Reference (Cell Address)

A cell reference is also known as a cell address. A cell reference allows the user to access data in the cells. MS Excel supports three types of cell references:

  1. Relative cell reference - If the reference of a cell automatically changes when we copy data from one cell to another then it is called relative cell reference.
  2. Absolute cell reference - If the reference of a cell remains the same when we copy data from cell to another then it is called absolute cell reference.
  3. Mixed cell reference - Mixed cell reference is used for both the reference relative and the absolute.
